Centerco Featured Community Member: David Robson
Centerco community member David Robson started his business, Premier Services, 21 years ago and ran it as a part-time business while working a full-time job. He reached the point where he wanted to make the switch to running it full time. He participates in the IRS’s Annual Filing Season Program, a voluntary program that holds certain preparers to a higher level requiring additional educational requirements and an annual test. He is also a Certified Guerrilla Marketing Trainer and Coach. We got the chance to ask the experienced business owner a few questions, take a look at what he said.
What services are offered at Premier Services?
I offer tax prep and planning. Most tax preparers record history, but I try to focus on helping my clients write history through proactive planning. I am planning to start offering college finance planning later this year to help clients plan their college savings needs because this is an area that people often find confusing. I also offer some business consulting/coaching services. My focus is helping individuals and small businesses.
Why did you become an entrepreneur?
I wanted to make a difference. I am passionate about sharing my skills with others to help enrich their lives.
What is your biggest challenge as an entrepreneur?
Making sure I spend enough time working “on” my business rather than just “in” my business. If there is one lesson I’ve learned it is that I need to be at least one step ahead.
What advice would you give to those wanting to start small businesses?
Have a solid plan and don’t be afraid to make a pivot if things aren’t going as expected. It is a lot easier to work with a well thought out plan than it is to make it up as you go along.
Why did you choose Centerco Office Suites for your business?
I knew when I took my business from part-time operation to full time I wanted to have a more professional atmosphere than running the business from my home. I was impressed with the atmosphere when I came in for my visit, but the amenities are an added bonus. It was a no-brainer and I get compliments from clients frequently.
